Responsibilities:

As an RFE/RL journalist, you will play a pivotal role in creating compelling content across various platforms, including radio, TV, online, social media, and print. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Crafting content on a wide range of topics, from bulletins and dispatches to features, ensuring relevance to the target audience.
  • Working as a field correspondent and reporter on assignments, conducting interviews in various settings.
  • Employing multimedia skills by moderating, delivering live content, blogging, recording, contributing, and capturing photos and videos as needed.
  • Staying up-to-date with political, economic, and social developments in the target area, and conducting thorough research to select reliable information from reputable sources.
  • Meeting or exceeding RFE/RL standards for content quality and adhering to editorial guidelines consistently.
  • Actively participating in program feedback sessions and contributing to program planning with original and viable coverage ideas.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree (MA) in Journalism or a related field (mandatory).

Work Experience: 3-4 years of experience as a journalist with good familiarity with the political, economic, and social situations in the broadcast area, as well as regional and international affairs.

Languages: proficiency in Russian; Knowledge of one of the North Caucasian languages would be a big plus. 

Competencies:

  • Ability to handle at least one selected platform or media, with general awareness of other media and platforms.
  • Proficient in working with audio and video equipment, word processing tools, information research tools, and new technologies.
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to develop and deliver quality content according to RFE/RL standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with RFE/RL content management systems and program scheduling.
  • A supportive team player with a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
