UNICEF Staff Kidnapped In Pakistan

Police in Pakistan say gunmen have kidnapped two local employees of the United Nations' Children's Fund, UNICEF, in the southern city of Karachi.

The two men, identified as Sami Nawaz and Farrukh Saleem, were abducted late on April 17.

UNICEF has yet to comment on the incident.

The port city of Karachi is Pakistan's financial heart and home to 18 million people. Many neighborhoods are considered Taliban strongholds, including the area of Shorab Goth, which is near where the men were abducted.

In February, armed assailants kidnapped three Pakistani men working for the UN's World Health Organization in the northwestern town of Tank.

The victims are still being held.
