Kosovo police have arrested dozens of opposition members, including one of its leaders who was wanted for violent actions that disrupted the country’s parliament.
Albin Kurti and 86 others were arrested at the Self-Determination Movement Party's headquarters on November 28 after tens of thousands of opposition supporters held a peaceful protest against the government’s deals with Serbia and Montenegro.
The opposition wants the government to withdraw from a deal with Serbia giving more powers to ethnic Serbian communities and from one with Montenegro on border demarcation.
During the past three months, opposition lawmakers have disrupted parliament with pepper spray, tear gas, whistles, and water bottles.
Kurti spoke at the rally and later made his way to the party headquarters, which was then surrounded by police.
Two policemen were injured when they entered the party headquarters and were confronted by people hitting them with hard objects, including chairs.
